Naturopathic care can help support men in all stages and walks of life to help prevent illness, manage and support symptoms, and help support longevity and healthy aging. While it tends to be more common for women to visit their naturopathic doctors more regularly, we want to help change the narrative and ensure that men feel just as comfortable and supported, because at the end of the day, men need support, too!

By not visiting your doctor regularly, you may be missing out on important screenings or missing vital pieces of the puzzle that could help you solve many of your current health concerns. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer are all more common in men than women, yet we see significantly less men coming into the office for routine visits.

Traditionally and historically men have been seen across many cultures as the ‘man of the house’ and are often taught to be strong, to not show emotion, and to keep pushing through no matter what. The reality is that this mindset can be detrimental to health in the long run if we start to ignore signs and symptoms and if we continue to suppress our emotions, as we start to see the negative effects that stress and suppressed emotions have on our bodies.

What to expect from a naturopathic visit
Naturopathic doctors typically spend more time with their patients in order to develop a strong doctor-patient relationship. Our initial consultations are 2-hours and follow-up appointments are typically 1-hour long.  Follow up appointments are made based on the progression of your health concerns, to check-in, and to adjust the care plan as needed. Generally, follow-ups can be from 4-6 weeks to 8-12 weeks apart. Your ND will recommend the appropriate length of time between visits based on your health concerns.
During your first visit, your naturopathic doctor will gather information about your past and present medical history. They will ask for details about current concerns and symptoms, as well as ask in-depth questions to gain an overall picture of you, your lifestyle, your habits, family history, and outside influences, which may be impacting your overall health. They will inquire about your current diet, medications, stress levels, and long-term health goals. During this process, your ND works to create a trusting, healing environment in which patients feel at ease and are able to fully share their concerns from a physical, mental, and emotional perspective.
