Richmond Natural Medicine's Infrared Sauna is Available to Current Patients

In March 2019 RNM unveiled its newest wellness resource: an in-house infrared sauna. Sessions are available for current patients (seen in the past 12 months at RNM) as an additional resource for their physical, mental and emotional healing. Infrared sauna sessions may be booked online here for more information and to see available appointment times.

Why Infrared Sauna?

Saunas have been used for thousands of years to restore tired muscles and to chase away illnesses or even the chill of cooler weather. Sauna:  meaning bath or bathhouse in Finnish originated in this Nordic land where today most households still maintain a sauna for good health and relaxation.

Saunas have evolved from caves to smoky huts and most recently to the often steam-infused saunas found at spas and gyms. Infrared saunas use wavelengths of heat that are part of the sun’s natural rays, and beneficial for our health. Infrared rays penetrate deeply beneath the skin surface to the cellular level, heating the body at a lower temperature than that of traditional saunas, and promoting detoxification and improved heart health.  This gentle process is usually very comfortable for most people and allows the nervous system to move to its parasympathetic state which supports improved sleep and increased levels of β-endorphins. The lower temperature (approximately 120 to 140 degrees F) than that of a traditional sauna allows patients to enjoy the rejuvenation experience safely over a longer period of time (30-40 minutes on average instead of approximately half that time).

Some of the benefits derived from infrared sauna as reported by University Health News include:

  • Detoxification
  • Reduction of stress and fatigue
  • Relief from muscle aches, arthritis, and joint relief
  • Weight loss and calorie burning
  • Increased metabolism
  • Immune system support
  • Skin conditions
  • Heart health
  • Appearance of cellulite
  • Diabetes support
  • Cognitive concerns, dementia

We invite our current patients to take a respite from the rigors of the season and experience the benefits that an infrared sauna has to offer. We hope it will become a rejuvenating part of your health journey.

NOTE: Patients with some conditions may need to consult with their RNM practitioner to assess whether the timing of their sessions should be adjusted. Check with your practitioner or our staff if you have questions.
