Learn More About Naturopathic Medicine
We Treat People. Not Diseases.
At the core of naturopathic medicine lies the body’s ability to heal itself. Symptoms of any illness serve as an indicator that there is an imbalance within the human body. Your body works to communicate with you that it is not functioning as it should. The imbalance could be cumulative or based on a lack or excess of nutritional factors, daily habits, infection, or environmental issues. Naturopathic medicine works to support the body in dealing with these imbalances in a more comfortable and efficient way. It works with the body, helping to rebalance the issue. The goal is to find the cause of the imbalance and use the symptoms to guide one in finding the cause of the disease.

About Our Naturopathic Doctors
A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is an expert in natural medicine. They blend natural, non-toxic therapies under current advancements in the study of health and human systems. They cover all aspects of family health and utilize cutting-edge medical knowledge and tools to resolve a client’s health concerns. Naturopathic doctors work alongside their patients, as partners, taking the time to listen to their needs and ensuring they are part of the healthcare solution. NDs provide clients with the time, space, and answers they need to show they are cared for and supported.
We Treat People, Not Diseases
We offer support for a variety of health concerns, from chronic pain to gastrointestinal illness, high blood pressure to diabetes, autoimmune conditions to women’s health concerns, and even Lyme disease and cancer. With a focus on treating the whole body instead of an isolated symptom, we are able to optimize general wellness in each individual. We examine all aspects of your health, including physical ailments, stress, nutrition, sleep and even your community of support. Understanding all these aspects that make one person unique from the next is the best way to craft a specific and individualized plan for each person.
Naturopathic medicine adheres six principles. Learn About More about them Here.
Let nature heal
The body has an innate wisdom and desire to heal itself. The naturopathic doctor’s objective is to help identify and remove any barriers or obstacles which may be preventing a person from getting well.
Do No Harm
Just like other doctors, naturopathic doctors take the Hippocratic Oath which states simply, not to do harm.
Treat the Whole Person
Each one of us is unique and complex. We are not simply a sum of body parts or a list of diagnoses. What’s going on in one part of the body affects another part, which affects your thoughts, your mood, and everything else. True health encompasses our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Naturopathic Doctors acknowledge all of these components and complexities with each and every client.
Identify and Treat the Cause
Rather than focusing on making symptoms go away or covering them up, a naturopathic doctor looks for the core cause(s) of the illness. Often when symptoms present, other practitioners will recommend prescribing a drug, which cause the symptoms to go away.
Doctor as Teacher
Naturopathic doctors believe in empowering patients, and the best way to do this is through education.
Prevent Illness and Preserve Health
As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Investing in your health now will save you from paying for it later. In the realm of naturopathic medicine, we not only take into account your health in the past and during the present – we also consider what it will be in the future.

What to Expect From Your Visit with a Richmond Natural Medicine Naturopathic Doctor
Clients will spend more time with their naturopathic doctors to develop a strong doctor-patient relationship. Initial consultations, as well as subsequent appointments, last longer than is anticipated from a medical doctor. This allows the ND to gather information about your past and present medical history. They will ask for details about current concerns, but will also ask in-depth questions to gain an overall picture of the client, their
lifestyle, their habits, and outside influences which may be impacting their overall health. Current diet, medications, stress levels and long-term health goals will also be discussed. The lengthier appointment times allow an ND to create a trusting, healing environment in which clients feel at ease and able to express their concerns from physical, mental, and emotional perspectives.
