General Wellness | Autoimmune | Chronic Illness | Naturopathic Cancer Support

Dr. Kristen Alexander is a resident Naturopathic Doctor at Richmond Natural Medicine. Her areas of interest include general wellness, chronic illness, autoimmunity, and mental health. She was drawn to Richmond Natural Medicine for the compassionate and supportive environment that they have created, and she is thrilled to work at a clinic that provides extended appointment times, which allows her to truly listen to and understand each of her patients.

Dr. Alexander received her B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in San Diego, California. She is a Mold-Literate Practitioner and works to support patients with mold-related illnesses.

Combining her traditional naturopathic education with her training in functional medicine, Dr. Alexander addresses each patient individually on all levels (mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually) and utilizes gentle modalities of care including botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine, to ensure that each patient receives comprehensive care.

Dr. Alexander believes that lifestyle medicine is truly important in every wellness journey, and she looks forward to working with each patient on foundational aspects such as sleep, stress management, diet, and exercise. She acknowledges that each individual has their own journey and relationship with these foundations and understands the importance of meeting each patient where they are currently at in their journey. She aims to provide recommendations that are attainable and sustainable for each individual to ensure progress towards their health goals.

From Dr. Alexander:

I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field since my teenage years, but I never found a specific area of interest in the conventional medical system to which I felt called. During my undergraduate education I worked as a pharmacy technician and was planning to pursue pharmacy school, but I quickly became disheartened with the conventional medical system and its lack of individuality. I happened to stumble upon naturopathic medicine and knew immediately that this was my calling, as I was drawn to the idea of being able to fully support patients from a ‘whole person’ perspective instead of their individual parts.

I enjoy spending time with each of my patients and listening to their individual stories. Oftentimes our current illnesses or states of disease are occurring due to something that has occurred in our past, and getting a detailed timeline of each patient’s history helps me to better understand the potential causes of their illnesses or concerns. Whether you embarked on your healing journey 50 years ago or are just getting started, I am honored to listen to your story, to work alongside you, and to guide you down the path towards your personal health goals.

As a native of Alabama, I am happy to be back in the Southeast and working alongside the team here at Richmond Natural Medicine! Outside of the clinic you can find me at home with my cats, reading books on how to start a homestead, or out exploring Richmond with my husband!
